Israeli forces detain 15 Palestinians, injure one in West Bank, Jerusalem raids

 

RAMALLAH, June 6, 2018 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Wednesday detained 15 Palestinians and injured another as they conducted multiple predawn raids across the West Bank and in East Jerusalem, said witnesses and security sources.

Israeli police conducted an overnight raid into the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Shufat refugee camp, detaining three Palestinians, including a minor.

Several hours afterwards, Israeli police detained two Palestinians as they were leaving Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces detained a Palestinian after surrounding his family home during a raid that triggered clashes in Beit Rima village, northwest of Ramallah. The detainee is reportedly a former prisoner.

During ensuing confrontations, soldiers shot and injured a young man with a rubber-coated steel bullet. They also fired tear gas canisters at local youths who protested the raid.

In a raid into the central West Bank city of al-Bireh, Ramallah’s twin city, soldiers detained three Palestinian brothers after surrounding their family home in Amari refugee camp.

In the northern West Bank, Israeli troops raided Nur Shams refugee camp, east of Tulkarem, detaining a Palestinian.

Another Palestinian was detained during a similar raid into Bal‘a town, northeast of Tulkarem.

In Qalqiliya city, soldiers ransacked several homes and detained two Palestinians.

In the southern West Bank, forces detained two Palestinians in a raid that sparked confrontations in Beit Ummar town, north of Hebron.

The detainees were identified as a 22-year-old former prisoner and a 17-year-old teenager.

Soldiers opened fire towards local youths who protested the raid, causing several to suffer from tear gas inhalation.
