NEW YORK, June 1, 2018 (WAFA) – A late night vote on a United Nations Security Council draft resolution to provide international protection for the Palestinian people in the Israeli occupied territories was postponed after the United States attempted to introduce changes to the bill, according to Riyad Mansour, Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations.
"The United States is exerting pressure on the Security Council to postpone the vote on a draft resolution to provide international protection to our people," Mansour told Palestine television early Friday, adding that Palestine has rejected the American amendments.
Kuwaiti ambassador to the UN, Mansour al-Otaibi, sponsor of the resolution, said, "We have received very late amendments from a member state, which we have to consider."
The US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley had said that that her country would use the veto power against Kuwait‘s draft resolution.
Mansour had said that the Security Council was likely to vote on the resolution on Thursday night or Friday at the latest.
"If the United States obstructs the resolution, we have other options, such as going to the General Assembly,” he said, adding that the next step will be announced in due time.
