Observer to UN: Israel cannot demand the right to security in the occupying Power while denying the right of the occupied people to security

NEW YORK, May 30, 2018 (WAFA) - Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations Riyad Mansour said that Israel cannot demand the right to security in the occupying Power while denying the right of the occupied people to security and protection, adding that "the right to security is not ed to Israel, but also to all people, including the Palestinian people."

The Permanent observer sent three identical letters to UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, and to President of the United Nations Security Council (Poland), demanding that they condemn and immediately act upon ending these Israeli attacks against Palestinian civilians in light of the ongoing attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip.

"We cannot forget that this escalation is taking place following more than 50 years of {Israeli] foreign occupation, brutal repression, collective punishment and the humiliation of the Palestinian civilian population in Gaza."

Mansour stressed that Israel has committed and continues to commit an endless list of atrocities and war crimes against the Palestinian people; who are still living under occupation and siege for decades.

“There can be no justifications for these attacks, the siege on Gaza, and the colonization of our land.”

He called on the international community, including the UN Security Council, to promptly act to end this escalation and to demand Israel, the occupying power, to fully and strictly comply with its legal obligations under the charter of United Nations and in accordance with the Fourth Geneva Convention.
