RAMALLAH, May 30, 2018 (WAFA) – Fatah movement, which is headed by President Mahmoud Abbas, called on Wednesday on the Argentinean government, people and the Argentine Football Association (AFA) to cancel the soccer friendly match between its national team and the Israeli team planned to be played in Jerusalem on June 9.
“Israel is doing everything other than playing soccer; this match is tantamount to an aggression against the Palestinian people’s rights and misleading international public opinion,” Fatah said in a statement regarding the game.
“Furthermore, it is a tool with an objective to violate the international law and legitimacy and suppress the Palestinian people,” it added.
Member of Fatah Revolutionary Council and its spokesman, Osama Qawasmi, stated in the press statement that “Israel is using soccer, a game aiming at building bridges of peace and love between nations, with an objective of influencing world public opinion regarding its racist policy of suppression, spreading hatred and violation of international legitimacy.”
He said “the blood of Gazan women and children on Israel’s hand - flagrantly given the green light for by the US decision on Jerusalem as capital of the occupation state - has not dried yet.”
Qawasmi said the Palestinian people would remain respectful of the Argentinean people who disapprove of the attitudes of the Israeli occupation and its racist policies and are fully convinced that the Argentine government, people and AFA will decide not to play this game in Israel.
