RAMALLAH, May 30, 2018 (WAFA) – Israel’s psychological war indented to create confusion and spread chaos and uneasiness among Palestinians in the last two weeks, the most recent is the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, were discussed during Fatah’s Central Committee meeting held in Ramallah on Tuesday, Azzam al-Ahmad, a senior Fatah official said on Wednesday.
He told Voice of Palestine radio that Israeli media spread rumors during the past two weeks about the health of President Mahmoud Abbas when he was getting treatment at hospital for lung infection while talking about who is going to succeed him in an effort to create tension and confusion and undermine national unity.
Ahmad, who is also member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), said the Fatah meeting discussed as well the decisions of the Palestinian National Council (PNC), which met in Ramallah last month, and the need to speed up their implementation, adding that President Abbas focused during the meeting on the role of institutions and their work as well as the necessity of uniting all efforts in facing the challenges ahead.
He said he is going to travel to Amman, Jordan, on Wednesday to meet with the chairman of the PNC, Salim Zanoon, to finalize preparations for a meeting for the PLO’s Central Council planned to be held next month in Ramallah.
Ahmad pointed out that the upcoming Central Council meeting is important in order to strengthen the functions of the PLO institutions and look into how to implement the decisions of the PNC to enhance the Palestinian situation.
Regarding national unity, Ahmad said that the contacts between Fatah and Hamas are ed but the doors are still open for Hamas to implement the signed agreements and abide by their clauses, starting with the full empowerment of the government in the Gaza Strip.
