RAMALLAH, May 28, 2018 (WAFA) – The killing of three Palestinians by Israeli artillery fire in the besieged Gaza Strip hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies on Monday.
The dailies reported that Israeli artillery fired at a location to the east of Khan Younes in the southern Gaza Strip, killing three Palestinians.
Al-Ayyam added that the fatalities, identified as Hussein al-Amour, 25, Abdul-Halim al-Naqa, 28, and Nasim al-Amour, 25, were members of Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad.
The dailies also reported that Israeli police shot a deaf and dumb Palestinian girl in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina, causing her moderate injuries.
Al-Ayyam said several Palestinian youths managed to cross the barbed border fence with Israel, north of Beit Hanoun, while three others were shot and injured by Israeli snipers, east of al-Zaytoun neighborhood.
It also reported that Israeli settlers cut off about 700 vine trees in a Palestinian-owned land, east of Hebron.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that Israeli forces delivered demolition orders for 20 Palestinian homes in al-Aqaba village, east of Tubas in the Jordan Valley.
They added that Israeli occupation authorities have approved a plan to construct a parking complex for illegal Jewish settlers on land belonging to al-Khader town, south of Bethlehem.
Al-Quds explained that the parking complex would be constructed on 72-dunum plot.
The dailies reported that Israeli military has started the construction of an underwater barrier to consolidate Gaza siege.
According to al-Quds, the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, has discussed a bill that would permit Israeli settlers to return to settlements evacuated in 2005 in the northern West Bank.
The health condition of President Mahmoud Abbas, who was taken to the hospital last week after suffering lung infection, also dominated the front page headlines in the dailies.
Director of Istishari Hospital Saeed Sarahneh was reported in al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida stating that Abbas’ health has been rapidly improving following one week of hospitalization for lung infection.
They added that Abbas received phone calls from former Hamas chief Khaled Mashaal, Lebanese leader Walid Jumblatt and former Lebanese cabinet minister, Ghazi Aridi.
Furthermore, Jordan’s monarch, Abdullah II, was reported in al-Quds stressing that the issue of Jerusalem should be settled within the final status issues on the basis of the two-state solution.
Abdullah’s reportedly made his remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the US House of Representatives, headed by Darrell Issa.
Moreover, al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Secretary-General of the PLO’s Executive Committee Saeb Erekat conveyed a message of gratitude for Angola after the latter had fired diplomats for attending the inauguration of the US embassy in Jerusalem without their country’s consent.
It reported Palestinian ambassador to the European Union (EU), Belgium and Luxembourg Abdel-Rahim al-Farra saying EU foreign ministers would discuss in their meeting, scheduled for Monday, Israeli occupation’s crimes against Palestinians, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
