Israel orders halt on house construction near Bethlehem

BETHLEHEM, May 4, 2018 (WAFA) – Israeli forces ordered on Friday a halt on the ongoing construction of a house in the village of al-Walajeh, to the west of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, according to local sources.

Ibrahim Awadallah, a local activist, told WAFA that Israeli forces notified Essa Atrash, a local villager, to stop the construction of his house in the village for lacking an Israeli construction permit.

The forces also demolished a retaining wall in the village, Awadallah added.

The village is located in Area C of the occupied West Bank, under complete Israeli control.

Palestinian construction in Area C – the more than 60 percent of the occupied West Bank under full Israeli civilian and security control – is nearly impossible.

Palestinians are not allowed to build on their own private lands without nearly impossible-to-obtain Israeli-issued building permits.
