National Council to discuss election of PLO Executive Committee’s members

RAMALLAH, April 30, 2018 (WAFA) - Member of the PLO Executive Committee Ahmad Majdalani said the Palestinian National council (PNC) is slated to discuss the organizational formula and outputs, including the election of the PLO Executive Committee’s members and the presidium of the PNC.

He stressed that the secretary-generals of the factions participating in the Palestinian National Council’s session met at 12:00 PM  to finalize arrangements for the convening of the PNC and formalize all procedures taken and to be taken throughout the four-day session.

Speaking during an interview with Voice of Palestine Monday morning, Majdalani pointed out that the PNC session would also address transferring the PNC’s powers to the Palestinian Central Council (PCC), including filling vacant membership positions.

Majdalani said that the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) has nominated a member for the position of the Chairman of the PNC.

The PNC would form several committees, including a committee to be in charge of drafting the PLO’s political statement.

Commenting on the issue of reducing the number of the members of the PLO’s Executive Committee, he said that the committee shall be composed of 12 to 15 members.

“If the powers of the PNC are transferred to the PCC, the PLO Executive Committee could be expanded to be composed of more members in the future,” he remarked.

He concluded that it was premature to talk about the issue of merging the PLO’s departments, which would be entrusted to the new PLO Executive Committee.
