Israeli navy targets fishermen offshore northern Gaza

GAZA, April 30, 2018 (WAFA) - Israeli naval boats early Monday opened fire towards Palestinian fishermen offshore the northern besieged Gaza Strip, according to local sources.

Israeli naval boats opened its machine gunfire towards Palestinian fishermen sailing within the four nautical miles fishing zone unilaterally imposed by Israel offshore the northern coastal enclave. No injuries were reported though.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces opened fire towards a group of people and farmers east of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip. No human casualties were reported though.

Despite the signed agreements between Palestinians and Israel, which allow fishermen to go 12 nautical miles inside the Mediterranean Sea, Israeli navy targets Gaza fishermen almost daily and does not allow them to go further than three nautical miles, which the fishermen say is not enough to catch fish.

A large number of Gazans rely on fishing for daily living in light of the tight decade-old blockade imposed by Israel on the Gaza Strip.
