Newspapers Review: Israeli army killing of Gaza Palestinian focus of dailies

 

RAMALLAH, April 4, 2018 (WAFA) – Israeli army killing of a Palestinian man on the Gaza border as preparations for another Friday March of Return continue were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Wednesday.

The papers said the army killed a Palestinian man during activity at the border with Gaza and Israel’s army chief Avigdor Lieberman threatened to kill more Palestinians if they approach the fence. Israel killed 16 Palestinians on Friday during protests at the Gaza border.

Al-Ayyam said Gazans plan to set fire to 10,000 tires in the coming protest at the border.

The three papers said criticism of Israel’s excessive use of firepower in Gaza on Friday continued with the Israeli human rights group B’Tselem saying the dismal human conditions in Gaza was Israel’s make while Human Rights Watch, the Palestinian government and the Arab League calling for an investigation into the killings.

In other news, al-Quds reported on Israeli settlers’ provocative activities in occupied Jerusalem, specifically at Al-Aqsa Mosque, and in the West Bank, mainly in Hebron in the south and Sebastia archeological site in the north.

It also said President Mahmoud Abbas discussed with the Egyptian head of intelligence Abbas Kamel in Ramallah Egyptian efforts to consolidate intra-Palestinian reconciliation.

Abbas had also expressed appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s support for the Palestinian rights, as reported on the front page of al-Hayat al-Jadida.

Al-Ayyam said in its story on this subject that hours after Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman made his statements on Israel, King Salman stressed to US President Donald Trump that Saudi Arabia supports the creation of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

It said a complaint was filed against an Israeli officer for sexually harassing in a verbal way Ahed Tamimi, 17, who is serving eight months in Israeli jail for slapping an Israeli soldier in her West Bank house.

The three papers said a Palestinian-Israeli was shot dead by Israeli soldiers following a car accident near the illegal Jewish settlement of Ariel in the occupied West Bank.
