CAIRO, April 1, 2018 (WAFA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi stressed on Sunday that resolving the Palestinian cause will fundamentally change the map of the region.
During a joint press conference in Cairo, Shoukry reiterated that Egypt is defending the Palestinian cause and will continue to do so through its peace efforts and calls to establish a Palestinian state.
Egypt is in contact with the Palestinian leadership for discussions over establishing a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
For his part, the Jordanian foreign minister said there is no real prospect for a comprehensive peace solution in the region at the moment.
He stressed that security and peace will not be achieved through the Israeli occupation, urging the international community to assume responsibilities to protect the Palestinian people from Israel‘s current acts in Gaza.
Safadi added that the Palestinian issue is the first central issue for Arabs, affirming that the rights of the Palestinian people must first be met to achieve peace.
