RAMALLAH, February 13, 2018 (WAFA) – The Government of Japan is going to cover costs of around $80,000 for the construction of a new building with three classrooms in the Center of the Disabled at Amari refugee camp in Ramallah, a press statement by the Japan Representative Office in Ramallah said on Tuesday.
A contract for one Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP) was signed by Takeshi Okubo, representative of Japan to Palestine, and representative of Palestinian Society for Care and Development at the Representative Office of Japan in Ramallah for a total amount of US$79,266.
Palestinian Society for Care and Development will use the fund for the construction of a new building with three classrooms, which aims at improving the educational environment for around 45 students from the schools of Amari refugee camp as well as 10 youth with disability who currently study in the center as well as accommodating the increasing numbers of the students.
More than 120 new students from the schools of Amari refugee camp will be able to have special education and related services in the targeted center.
Okubo congratulated Palestinian Society for Care and Development and wished them success in their project. He emphasized Japan’s firm commitment of supporting Palestinian people from human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.
Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance amounting to approximately $1.8 billion to the Palestinians. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through Ministry of Finance and Planning since 2010.
