Regional Alliance ALBA rejects US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital

HAVANA, December 15, 2017 (WAFA) - Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) rejected U.S. President Donald Trump‘s move of recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Following the 16th Political Council of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) which took place in Havana in commemoration of the 13th anniversary of the creation of the Alliance, the alliance expressed deep concern over Trump’s official recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, which it stressed, would have serious repercussions on stability and security in the Middle East.

The alliance maintained that the US announcement  is a grave and flagrant violation of the United Nations’ Charter, international law and relevant UN resolutions.

ALBA expressed support for the just cause of the Palestinian people and for a comprehensive, lasting, and peaceful solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on a two-state solution that would allow Palestinians to exercise their right to self determination in an independent and sovereign state within the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital.
