Calls made to hold evening prayers at Jerusalem’s Damascus Gate

JERUSALEM, December 14, 2017 (WAFA) – Calls have been made on social media to hold the Muslim evening and night prayers on Thursday at Damascus Gate, one of the main gates to Jerusalem’s Old City, to protest the US decision recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Palestinians have been holding daily protests at Damascus Gate since US President Donald Trump announced his decision on December 6 and in spite of Israeli police crackdown on the protesters using excessive force.

Police also detained a number of leading Palestinian activists from East Jerusalem in order to suppress the protests.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said its crews treated a number of injuries mainly from beating by police during the week-long protests in the occupied holy city.
