RAMALLAH, December 12, 2017 (WAFA) – Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations Riyad Mansour Tuesday said that Arab ambassadors to the UN agreed to prepare a draft resolution that condemns the United States for its recent decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Speaking to Palestine TV, Mansour said the Arab ambassadors at the UN asked the permanent missions of Palestine, Jordan, Kuwait and Egypt to prepare a draft resolution that calls for honoring past resolutions by UN Security Council on Jerusalem, and for the US to back down on its recent decision on the city.
“We have taken several other steps… This includes calls for recognition of the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital from countries that have not yet recognized it, specifically the Western European countries such as France, Belgium, Portugal, Ireland, Spain and Italy,” Mansour said.
He praised the position of five European Union countries who recently expressed their objection to US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, in violation of international resolutions on the city.
