Turkey‘s main opposition party says Palestinian state is an international responsibility

ANKARA, November 3, 2017 (WAFA) – Turkey‘s main opposition party, the Republican People‘s Party, said it supports the creation of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, which is an international responsibility.

Party chairman, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, said in a letter to President Mahmoud Abbas announcing his party‘s representation at a conference held in Ramallah on Thursday marking 100 years for the infamous Balfour Declaration, that the independent state is the international community‘s historical responsibility toward the Palestinian people.

"As main opposition party, we welcome all efforts based on the two-state solution to create an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital," he wrote.

"We understand that this will be the only viable and lasting solution to end the decades-long sufferings of our Palestinian brothers. We believe that is a historical responsibility for the international community to the Palestinian people."

Kilicdaroglu expressed hope that Palestinian unity "will be further strengthened by peaceful and constructive steps."

He said his party supports unity efforts between Fatah and Hamas "to work together for the future of your country."

The Republican People‘s Party chairman said: "We will do our utmost to help contribute to all possible initiatives to put the dying peace process back on track."
