JEDDAH, April 4, 2026 (WAFA) – Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Hissein Brahim Taha, has sent identical letters to several international parties and institutions condemning the Israeli Knesset’s approval of a law allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention.
The letters were addressed to United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, and United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk.
Taha described the legislation as a dangerous precedent that legalizes killing and political execution, and as an extension of systematic Israeli violations in the occupied Palestinian territory. He said it represents a direct assault on the values of justice and human dignity and constitutes a grave breach of international law, including international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
He noted that the approval of the law comes amid worsening conditions for Palestinian prisoners, citing documented violations including humiliation, physical and psychological torture, inhumane treatment, sexual violence, starvation, and administrative detention, as reported by UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese.
The OIC Secretary-General called on all relevant international bodies, institutions, and member states to assume their responsibilities and take necessary measures to halt and repeal the law, and to ensure protection for Palestinian prisoners.
