RAMALLAH, April 3, 2017 (WAFA) – The hiatus of US-Israeli talks on settlement construction across the occupied West Bank hit the front page headlines in Palestinian local dailies.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported the US and Israel suspended talks on Israeli settlement construction ]across the occupied West Bank[ after they failed to reach an agreement in this regard.
The dailies reported Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised a “package of facilities” that would purportedly improve the economic situation of Palestinians following Washington’s request.
Al-Quds explained the US and Israel failed to agree on settlement construction following the Israeli government’s announcement of the construction of a new settlement in the West Bank.
Besides, al-Ayym said scores of Israeli Jewish settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound after calls for en masse intrusions into the flashpoint site.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israeli troops raided the family home of Ahmad Ghazal during a raid into the Nablus neighborhood of Jabal al-Tur, also known as Mount Gerizim.
Ghazal, 17, was shot killed by Israeli troops after he allegedly stabbed and lightly injured two Israelis and a policeman in East Jerusalem’s Old City on Saturday.
They added Israeli troops shut down the al-Bukhari bookstore near An-Najah National University in Nablus.
The dailies also reported the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, approved a bill to step up Palestinian home demolitions inside Israel.
Al-Quds reported families of Palestinians deported to the Gaza Strip following the 2002 Israeli siege of the Nativity Church in Bethlehem rallied at Manger Square, calling for allowing the deportees to return.
Referring to a UN report, al-Quds said Israeli occupation imposes an annual price tag of US$ 9 billion on Palestinian economy.
Al-Ayyam said a Hamas political document published by the Lebanese news site of Al Mayadeen revealed plans to soften the movement’s charter to recognize a Palestinian state on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
It also reported a Hamas official pledging that movement would proceed with an investigation to uncover the killers of Mazen Fuqahaa, a Hamas leader shot dead in front of his home in Gaza city.
