RAMALLAH, March 21, 2017 (WAFA) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi hit the front page headlines of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Tuesday.

Al-Ayyam, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Abbas and al-Sisi discussed ways of uniting the Arab position in the next period in order to strengthen the Palestinian Liberation Organization stance. The Palestinian cause is a top priority of the Egyptian presidency foreign policy, according to al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida.

Commenting on the Palestinian-Egyptian meeting, a statement by Fatah Central Committee member Azzam al-Ahmad was published in al-Hayat al-Jadida. Al-Ahmad said that Abbas’ meeting with al-Sisi was frank and clear regarding all issues.

Al-Ayyam reported that a Palestinian National Forces personnel, identified as Hasan Ali al-Hajj, was shot dead during clashes with outlaws in Balata refugee camp, east of Nablus in the occupied West Bank.

Reporting on the same news, al-Hayat al-Jadida said thousands of people attended the funeral of al-Hajj in the village of Koubar near Ramallah.

Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah released a statement commenting on the issue. Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Hamdallah said that the security of citizens shall not be threatened.

Reporting a different issue, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that UN rights expert Michael Lynk accused Israel of subjugation of Palestinians’ humanity and intensifying a crackdown on human rights activists.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported that Israeli forces issued a military order to renew seizure of Palestinian-owned lands in the villages Jayyous and Falamya, in the governorate of Qalqilya in the West Bank.

Reporting on recent tension between Israel and Syria, al-Quds said that the Israeli airstrikes in Syria might push for a new war.

The three dailies reported that Jordan’s Supreme Court rejected a request by the US to extradite Ahlam al-Tamimi, a woman who was involved in a suicide bomb attack at a Sbarro pizza restaurant in Jerusalem in 2001. The attack killed 15 people, including two Americans.

On a more Palestinian-related topic, Walled Off Hotel, the newly opened hotel, which was created by British street artist Banksy in Bethlehem, has opened its doors to receive guests. The hotel is close to the Israeli Apartheid Wall.
