RAMALLAH, March 14, 2017 (WAFA) – The killing a Palestinian young man by Israeli troops following an alleged stabbing attempt in East Jerusalem hit the front page headlines in local Palestinian dailies.
The dailies said Israeli occupation forces shot dead a Palestinian young man, identified as Ibrahim Mattar, 25, following an alleged stabbing attempt in the vicinity of the Lion’s Gate (Bab al-Asbat) in East Jerusalem.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida described the killing as “assassination” and “execution”. Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Matter was “executed” while on his way to perform the dawn prayer to Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Both dailies said Israeli forces raided Mattar’s family home in Jabal al-Mukabbir, detaining four of his family members and prevented the installation of a mourning tent commemorating him.
Highlighting West Bank raids, al-Quds said Israeli forces detained a number of Palestinians during raids that sparked clashes that saw a number of Palestinians injured across the West Bank.
It added forces chased Palestinian students during a raid into the Bethlehem district town of Tuqu.
The dailies said Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah appointed a committee to investigate police suppression of a demonstration in front of the Ramallah magistrate’s court.
Al-Ayyam added hundreds of Palestinians took to the streets of Ramallah city to protest the suppression of a demonstration by security services in Ramallah on Sunday.
Al-Quds reported Secretary-General of President’s Office Tayyib Abdul-Rahim as stating all schemes designed to fragment and liquidate the Palestinian cause are doomed to failure.
He was also reported as affirming there would be no Palestinian state without or in the Gaza Strip.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported Palestinian schools in Jerusalem would observe a one-day strike on Tuesday to protest Israeli authorities’ dictates and interference.
Furthermore, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Jason Greenblatt met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The dailies added Greenblatt is due to meet President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah on Tuesday.
Al-Quds reported US State Department Spokesman Mark Toner as stating: “We see ]Jewish-only Israeli settlements across the West Bank[ as a challenge that needs to be addressed at some point.”
It reported Israeli human rights group Yesh Din as announcing Israeli police fail to indict 95 percent of Israeli attacks against Palestinians.
The dailies said pro-Palestinian activist and Chairman of the UK-based Palestine Campaign Solidarity organization was denied entry to Israel by Israeli authorities.
Finally, al-Hayat al-Jadida reported Chairman of the Committee against the Wall and Settlements Walid Assaf revealing Israeli companies have forged contracts in order to seize large swaths of Palestinian land belonging to Azzun-Atma village, southeast of Qalqilya.
