Foreign Ministry says Israel’s practices do not convey a good message for resuming negotiations

RAMALLAH, March 13, 2017 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, in a statement Monday, that the practices of the Israeli government and its violations against the Palestinian people, their properties and their holy sites do not convey a good message for resuming peace negotiations.

It said, “With the United States administration starting action and consultations with both the Israeli and Palestinian sides to push the peace process forward and resume negotiations, the right-wing government of Israel, chaired by Benjamin Netanyahu, continues to confiscate more Palestinian lands.”

The Ministry’s statement came in response to Israel’s decision to confiscate 142 dunums of Palestinian land in Sha’rawiya area, north of Tulkarm in the occupied West Bank, in addition to Israel’s ongoing leveling works to establish a new settlement neighborhood near the village of Azzoun al-Atma, near Qalqilia.

The statement came also in response to Israel’s extrajudicial execution of Palestinian 25-year-old Mahmoud Matar from Jabal al-Mukabir, in Jerusalem, on Monday morning.

“These practices of settlement construction and field executions come together with a plenty of inciting Israeli statements against the Palestinian people, their rights and their leadership,” the ministry said, adding: “This is an attempt to shuffle the cards and rearrange the political priorities, according to the map and the interests of the ruling right-wing in Israel.”
