Palestinian hunger striker in Israeli jails moved to hospital

RAMALLAH, March 8, 2017 (WAFA) – Hunger striking Palestinian detainee in Israeli jails Mohammad al-Qiq was transferred to hospital on Tuesday after his medical condition significantly deteriorated, following 31 days of hunger strike against detention without trial.

Issa Qaraqe, chairman of the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission, said al-Qiq was transferred to Assaf HaRofeh Medical Center in central Israel as he had entered into a very critical health stage.

Al-Qiq, a 34-year-old journalist, started a hunger strike on February 6 in protest of his administrative detention, without a charge or trial, by the Israeli authorities.

He was released by Israel in May 2016 after he had gone on a 94-day hunger strike in protest of his administrative detention. Israeli army arrested him again in January 15 and gave him a new administrative detention sentence.
