CAIRO, March 7, 2017 (WAFA) – Foreign Minister Riyad Malki said Tuesday that Israel is still defying all international resolutions calling for ending its occupation.
"The Palestinian people are still also suffering from the occupation and its awful practices as well as ongoing settlement expansions," Malki said during his speech at the 147th Arab League Ministerial Council in Cairo.
The meeting comes in preparation for the upcoming Arab Summit in Jordan by the end of this month.
Malki also said that Israel is still obstructing and undermining any peaceful settlement through its ongoing practices against the Palestinian people.
He voiced out rejection of the new Israeli settlement law, which legalizes random settler homes built on private Palestinian lands, stressing that this law contradicts with the international law, Geneva Convention as well as the signed agreements between the two sides.
"What Israel is doing now simply means that a viable geographically connected Palestinian state is impossible, let alone annexing the Jordan Valley, which makes up approximately 40 percent of the West Bank," he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Malki urged the Arab League and the Arab Quartet to quickly move in to put an end to the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and defy the Israeli measures that challenge the international law.
"The international community has a clear vision for a political solution that ensures ending the Israeli occupation and creating an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital," Malki added.
