RAMALLAH, March 1, 2017 (WAFA) – Several cases of suffocation were reported among Palestinian university students during clashes that erupted with Israeli forces near Beit El military checkpoint, north of the central West Bank city of Ramallah, according to witnesses.
A demonstration organized by Birzeit University students to protest the detention of fellow students who rallied on Tuesday at the Israeli Ofer military camp and prison west of Ramallah in solidarity with hunger striking prisoners held in Israeli jails.
Forces stationed near the checkpoint fired rubber bullets and tear gas canisters at the protesters leading to several cases of suffocation. They were all treated at the scene.
Israeli soldiers Tuesday detained six Birzeit University students, including three women, during protests outside Ofer camp.
The six will be facing charges of rock-throwing at Israeli soldiers.
