Government declares International Women’s Day a holiday

BETHLEHEM, February 28, 2017 (WAFA) – The Palestinian government Tuesday declared International Women’s Day, which coincides on Wednesday, March 8, a national holiday.

“We are proud of the Palestinian women who are considered the foundation of the family and society and full partners to men in the workplace, education and building, and main partners in the long struggle of our people for freedom and independence,” Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah told his cabinet during their meeting in Bethlehem.

He said the Palestinian Authority would do all it can to protect the status of women and to make sure that they are treated equally and fairly in society so that they can play a role in the political, economic and social life.
