JORDAN VALLEY, February 28, 2017 (WAFA) – Israeli authorities Tuesday notified Palestinians in the northern Jordan Valley of their intentions to demolish nine structures, including residential shacks, citing unpermitted construction, according to a local official.
Motaz Bsharat, who monitors developments in the Jordan Valley, told WAFA Israeli army notified three families in Khirbet al-Dir of their intention to demolish their homes.
Head of Kardala village council, Ghassan Faqha, said forces handed residents in the village of Kardala demolition notices for six structures, including residential shacks made of sheets of plastic and corrugated metal.
The number of demolition notices distributed among Palestinians in the Jordan Valley during the past five months has reached at least 27 orders, noted the official.
Israel frequently utilizes the lack of construction permits as a pretext to demolish Palestinian houses. Permits are rarely granted to Palestinians prompting them to embark on construction without obtaining a permit.
According to OCHA protection of civilians weekly report covering the period between the 7th and 20th of February 2017, ‘The Israeli authorities demolished 29 Palestinian-owned structures in East Jerusalem and Area C on the grounds of lack of building permits, displacing 32 people, including 20 children, and affecting the livelihoods of 87 others.’
