Israeli settlers close Nablus-Tulkarm main roads

NABLUS, February 28, 2017 (WAFA) – A number of Israeli settlers Tuesday morning blocked off main roads north from Nablus city in the northern West Bank, said locals.

Settlers from the illegal Shavei Shomron settlement closed the main roads north of Nablus city.

They hurled stones at Palestinians in their vehicles, obstructing traffic in both directions and forcing passengers to take alternative routes.

Shavei Shomron is an Israeli settlement that was founded in 1977 on lands seized from the Palestinian villages of Deir Sharaf and An-Naqura, north of Nablus.

Israeli settlers frequently attack Palestinians and damage their property across the West Bank, but they are rarely prosecuted by Israeli authorities.

There are over 500,000 Israeli settlers living across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, in violation of international law.

All settlements across the occupied Palestinian territories are illegal under international law, specifically article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which establishes that the occupying power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.
