GENEVA, February 27, 2017 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas Monday reiterated his call for the need to implement the United Nations resolution 2334 adopted on 23 December 2016, which reaffirms that all Israeli settlements built outside Israel’s pre-1967 borders violate international law.
During a meeting with President of the UN General Assembly, Peter Thomson, which was held on the sidelines of the 34th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Abbas reaffirmed the need for the UN and its bodies, particularly its security council, to shoulder its responsibilities toward the current dangerous situation, which witnessed grave escalations by Israel; the occupying power.
He further reiterated the importance of establishing an international protection system for the Palestinian people and affirmed the need to put a binding mechanism and a specified timeframe to end the Israeli occupation.
Abbas discussed similar issues with the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, and briefed him on the latest political developments.
