Former premier refutes speculations of deal to overcome US veto blocking UN job

RAMALLAH, February 16, 2017 (WAFA) – Former Prime Minister Salam Fayyad Thursday said he will not agree to make a deal with any side in order to overcome the US veto which blocked his appointment as the United Nations’ peace envoy to Libya.

Fayyad said in a statement published on his personal Facebook page that he objects to all forms of blackmail, which attempt to shed doubt on his belonging to Palestine or offer Israel something in return for its approval of his appointment.

“I cannot be a part of such a deal under any condition,” he said in reference to an Israeli proposal to offer former Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni a position as UN Secretary-General deputy as part of a bargain with the US to overcome its objection to the appointment of Fayyad.
