RAMALLAH, February 15, 2017 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Ministry of Health Wednesday said in a statement that 7.8% of the cancer patients in Palestine are children and 31.7% of them were under five years of age
The ministry said marking the International Children Cancer Day that 59.3% of children cancer patients were male.
Jawad Bitar, director of the ministry’s information department, said Leukemia comes at the top of the list of children cancer cases with a rate of 30.2%, followed by brain cancer and nervous system cancer by 18.5% of the registered cancer cases.
The ministry added that Lymphoma cancer comes in the third place with 7.4%, while multiple myeloma cancer comes in the fourth place with 5.8%.
Bitar pointed that rate of children’s death caused by cancer was 3.8% of total cancer deaths reported in Palestine, while %26.8 of the children who die from cancer are less than five years of age.
