GAZA, January 14, 2017 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Saturday opened fire on Palestinian farmers along Gaza borders and on fishermen sailing within Gaza waters, said sources.
Israeli navy opened its heavy machine gunfire at Palestinian fishermen’s boats while sailing within the unilaterally-designated allowed fishing zone offshore the northern and southern Gaza Strip.
The fishermen were forced to return back to shore for fear of being detained, injured, or killed.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces stationed at military watchtowers along Gaza borders with Israel, opened fire on Palestinian hunters and farmers to the east of the Strip as well as in central Gaza.
No injuries were reported.
In a fact sheet about Israeli attacks on border areas and their consequences, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) said, ‘preventing Palestinians from accessing their lands and fishing areas violates numerous provisions of international human rights law, including the right to work, the right to an adequate standard of living, and the right to the highest attainable standard of health.’
