RAMALLAH, August 4, 2016 (WAFA) – The passing of a bill permitting imprisonment of Palestinian children under the age of 14 by Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, hit the front page headlines in Palestinian daily newspapers.
The three dailies said the Knesset passed a bill into a law permitting the imprisonment of Palestinian children as young as 12.
Highlighting house demolitions, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said Israeli bulldozers demolished Palestinian structures in Nabi Samuel village, northwest of Jerusalem. Al-Ayyam explained demolished structures included a women association’s headquarters and greenhouses.
Al-Quds added in this regard Israeli bulldozers also demolished Palestinian structures in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina and the Jordan Valley.
Regarding the Jordan Valley, al-Ayyam explained Israeli forces chased and seized donkeys and livestock belonging to Palestinian shepherds in the West Bank’s Jordan Valley in order to displace Palestinians and seize their lands.
Furthermore, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said Israeli police handcuffed and detained four staff of the rehabilitation committee of the Islamic Endowment (Waqf), including the committee director, from inside Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Al-Ayyam added that police prevented maintenance work on the Dome of the Rock’s arabesques and interior mosaics.
The three dailies also highlighted widespread hunger strike among Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said Palestinian detainees started stepped up their measures, including hunger strike, in protest of Israeli Prison Service’s violations against them
Al-Ayyam reported Palestinian Health Ministry warning that health condition of Bilal Kayid, who has been hunger striking for 52 days, continued to deteriorate to an “extent that doesn’t withstand any further delays.”
Highlighting Fatah Central Committee’s meeting chaired by President Mahmoud Abbas, the three dailies reported Fatah as stressing the importance of upcoming successful local elections.
Finally, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said an Israeli court extended a gag order on video footage of Palestinian siblings’ killing at Qalandiya military checkpoint.
