Twelve Palestinians Detained, Another Shot, Injured in Jerusalem, Qalqiliya, Jenin Raids

JERUSALEM, July 18, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli forces early Monday detained 12 Palestinians, including three minors and a local Fatah leader, and shot and injured another mostly during raids across Jerusalem, Qalqiliya and Jenin, said security sources and Palestine Prisoner’s Society.

Israeli police detained two Palestinian young men from inside Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. The detainees were identified as Adel Abu-Zneid, a local Fatah-affiliated leader, and Ahed al-Rishq.

The detention of both Abu Zneid and al-Rishq took place as Israeli police and troops allowed ultra-religious Jewish Israelis to enter the compound via the Moroccan Gate, provoking tensions with Palestinian Muslim worshippers.

Furthermore, forces conducted large-scale detention raids in the Jerusalem town of al-Issawiya, ransacking many houses and detaining four Palestinians.

The detainees were identified as Muhammad Atiyya, a minor, Bassem Ma‘tuk, Daoud Atiyya, 17, and Anas Abu ‘Asab, 17.

Forces also detained two other Palestinians and ransacked many houses during raids into al-Eizariya town and Beit Iksa village, southeast and northwest of Jerusalem.

The other two detainees were identified as Nitham Abu-Rumuz and Muhammad Abu-Sbitan.

Meanwhile, three Palestinians were detained and a woman was battered during a predawn raid into the northern West Bank city of Qalqiliya.

Troops detained ‘Ala Abtali, his brother, Anas, and Salim Ju‘idi after storming and searching their family houses.

They also battered a local woman who has not been identified as they searched her family house.

During the raid, troops shot and injured a local Palestinian with a rubber-coated bullet.

In the meantime, forces handcuffed and detained Majdi Atatra from the northern West Bank district of Jenin.
