Israel Detains 10 Palestinians in West Bank, Jerusalem

WEST BANK, September 20, 2015 (WAFA) – At least 10 Palestinians were detained by the Israeli army on Sunday during night and predawn raids in the West Bank districts of Ramallah and Jenin and in Jerusalem, according to local and security sources.

Army forces stormed the city of Jenin and the nearby Jenin refugee camp, where they detained Qais Arqawi, 20, Momen Touqan, 25, Haitham Nabhan, 20, and Mohammad Abu-Saqer, 18.

According to Palestinian security sources, Abu-Saqer was detained after he was moderately injured with a live bullet in his leg when he came under Israeli fire.

In Ramallah, the army detained Maher Tamimi, 19, and Izz ed-Din Tamimi, 18, after raiding their homes in the village of Nabi Saleh, to the west of Ramallah.

Witnesses told WAFA Israeli soldiers assaulted and beat up Maher Tamimi during his detention. They added that clashes erupted in the village during the Israeli incursion, during which soldiers used teargas canisters towards youth protesters and local Palestinians, causing multiple cases of suffocation.

Earlier in Jerusalem, Israeli police and security forces detained four Palestinians, including two minors, for reportedly joining protests against the Israeli escalation in al-Aqsa Mosque compound. The four detainees were not identified yet.

Last night’s arrests in Jerusalem increases the number of Palestinians detained by Israel since last Friday to 27.

Meanwhile on Sunday, clashes erupted between Israeli soldiers and Palestinians at the entrance of the town of Sair, northeast of Hebron, when an Israeli checkpoint set there caused a traffic jam. The soldiers used teargas canisters, stun grenades and live ammunition against the protesters, causing multiple cases of suffocation by teargas inhalation.
