RAMALLAH, September 19, 2015 (WAFA) – Israel’s
quelling of Palestinian marches protesting heavy restrictions on Palestinians’
access into Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by Israeli police hit the front page
headlines in Palestinian dailies.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida
reported that dozens of Palestinians were injured as Israeli forces quelled
“Friday of rage” marches across the West Bank in condemnation of the Israeli
aggression on the mosque compound.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam
reported that Israeli occupation authorities deployed reserve police troops in
the alleyways of East Jerusalem’s Old City. al-Quds reported that, as a result,
Jerusalem became a barrack.
Al-Quds also reported on General
Director of the Jerusalem Endowment and Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Isma‘il Nawahda as
condemning the “unprecedented” Israeli attack against the mosque compound.
It also reported that similar marches
in support of the mosque compound were organized in Amman, Tahran and Kabul.
Furthermore, al-Quds reported on Palestinian
President Mahmoud Abbas as warning against the Palestinian-Israeli political
conflict turning into a religious one.
It also reported PLO Executive Committee
Secretary-General Saed Erekat as stating that he was informed by Saudi Foreign
Minister Adel al-Jubeir that the situation in Al-Aqsa Mosque compound would be
the highest priority on Saudi Arabia’s agenda.
Highlighting Palestinian official
remarks regarding the tensions flare at the mosque compound, Palestinian Prime
Minister Rami Hamdallah was quoted in al-Hayat al-Jadida as warning that,
“Israel has been desecrating the holy sites in Jerusalem”.
Abbas was quoted in al-Quds as warning
that, “The Israeli provocations would result in grave consequences.”
Also with regards to the tensions
flare at the mosque compound, the three dailies reported UN Security Council as
appealing for clam and calling to uphold the historic status quo at al-Aqsa mosque..
Furthermore, the three daily
newspapers reported that Israeli forces Friday evening prevented Hamdallah and
his envoy from entering Jerusalem.
They noted that Hamdallah was
accompanied by the head of the Palestinian Intelligence Service, Majid Farraj,
and the head of the Palestinian Preventive Security Service Ziyad Hab al-Reeh.
Moreover, al-Ayyam reported that a
rocket fired from the Gaza Strip landed adjacent to an empty barked bus in the
southern Israeli city of Sderot.
Al-Quds reported in this regard that
Israeli warplanes targeted a Palestinian resistance’s site in Gaza.
Following a video that went viral
showing a group of Palestinian security officers violently attacking a teenage
boy with clubs for partaking in a peaceful rally in the Bethlehem refugee camp
of ‘Azza in support of Al-Aqsa Mosque, the three dailies reported that the
government has formed a special committee to investigate the incident.
With regards to the situation in Gaza,
al-Ayyam reported that the Egyptian army begins flooding the tunnels along
Gaza-Egypt border.
