RAMALLAH,
September 9, 2015 (WAFA) - Chairman of the Palestine National Council (PNC),
Salim al-Za‘noun, announced Monday that the PNC’s conference, which was
scheduled to be held mid September, has been officially postponed for a period
not exceeding three months.
In a
press conference held at the council’s headquarters in Ramallah, chairman of
the PNC said the meeting was postponed in response to many written requests
made by members of the PLO’s executive committee, which included
recommendations and calls to postpone the session.
Al-Za’noun
explained that the reasons include needing more time to prepare for the session
in order to overcome obstacles that might negatively affect the achievement of
the desired results. Another reason is to allow a larger turnout among various
political factions in order to take part in shouldering responsibilities within
the framework of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) as the sole and
legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
PNC
chairman said all resignations made by members of PLO executive committee would
not be considered official and all members would resume their duties up until
the next PNC session, where new executive committee elections will be held.
