Newspapers Review: Dailies Highlight Army Killing of Minor near Hebron

RAMALLAH, March 20, 2014 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted on their Thursday issue the Israeli forces’ killing of a Palestinian minor in Hebron area while he was heading to work on Wednesday.

They said army forces opened fire at, and killed, 15-year-old Yousef Shawamreh, from the village of Deir Al-Assal to the south of Hebron, while he was heading to his work as a natural-plant collector in a land adjacent to the apartheid wall which separates the West Bank and Israel.

They also said the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem approved a project to build 184 housing units in two settlements in Jerusalem, 146 in Har Homa (Jabal Abu Ghunaim) and 40 in Pisgat Ze'ev.

Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said the U.S. Secretary of States, John Kerry, expressed his frustration over statements made by the Israeli Minister of Defense, Moshe Ya’alon in which said ‘the United States is not concerned about Israel’s security.’

In a separate subject, al-Ayyam said Israeli army Wednesday arrested 12 people in the village of Zububa to the northwest of Jenin, while others suffocated as army forces fired tear gas canisters towards them.

The three dailies said the Israeli parliament, Knesset, Wednesday approved to extend a law prohibiting the reunification of Palestinian families of whom members hold the Israeli nationality while others hold the Palestinian one.

Al-Quds said Israeli bulldozers are razing Palestinian-owned lands in Salfit district for the expansion of settlements and the construction of more housing units.

While al-Ayyam said Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah Wednesday signed development agreements with the German government, worth 55 million Euros, Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Hamdallah as saying ‘the Palestinian-German partnership is an example for boosting sustainable development in Palestine.’

Al-Ayyam said Israeli army artillery Wednesday targeted several locations of the Syrian army in the Golan Heights and Israel warned the Assad regime of “paying a high price for supporting ‘terrorists.” Al-Quds said a Syrian soldier was killed in the Israeli attacks.
