RAMALLAH, May 10, 2025 (WAFA) – A United Nations committee has warned of another "Nakba" similar to the displacement of Palestinians in 1948, due to the "unimaginable suffering" caused by Israeli practices.
The Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories said in a statement issued last night that "Israel continues to inflict unimaginable suffering on the people under its occupation, while accelerating the pace of land acquisition as part of its broader colonial ambitions."
It added, "What we are witnessing could be another Nakba."
The Special Committee, established by the UN in 1968, currently consists of the ambassadors of Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Senegal to the world body.
The members said in their statement, "What the world is witnessing could amount to a second Nakba, and it is clear that the goal of broader colonial expansion is the priority of the Government of Israel."
They added, "Security operations are used as a cover for rapid land seizures, mass displacement, demolition, forced evictions, and ethnic cleansing, in order to replace Palestinian communities with Jewish colonists."
