Agreement Reached Between UNRWA and Employees Ends 65-Day Strike

RAMALLAH, February 6, 2014 (WAFA) – Minister of Labour, Ahmad al-Majdalani, said on Thursday that an agreement was reached between UNRWA’s administration and its employees, ending the employees strike which lasted for more than 65 days.

During a meeting between UNRWA officials and workers union Majdalani said that, “It has been agreed to compensate the strike days and not to make salary deduction.”

He considered this agreement an important step in ending the strike, adding that talks are underway to sign a memorandum of understanding between the two parties regarding what has been agreed on.

Al-Majdalani stressed that part of the workers’ demands have been met while the rest were delayed for more deliberation between the mutual committees of the workers union and the UNRWA.
