ICRC says it facilitated transfer of five released Gaza detainees, reunited them with families

GAZA, March 29, 2026 (WAFA) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced on Sunday that it facilitated the transfer of five released detainees from the Kerem Abu Salem crossing to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. The ICRC also worked to enable the detainees to contact and reunite with their families.

In a statement, the ICRC explained that it has been unable to access the detainees held in Israeli detention centers since October 2023. It stressed the need to be informed of the fate and whereabouts of all detainees and to be granted access to them.

It emphasized that, under international humanitarian law, detainees must be treated humanely, provided with suitable detention conditions, and allowed to communicate with their families.

The ICRC added that many Palestinian families are anxiously awaiting any information about their detained loved ones, given their growing concern for their health and safety. It affirmed its continued dialogue with the Israeli authorities to resume visits to all Palestinian detainees.
