Jordan condemns Isrongoing closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli occupation authorities

AMMAN, March 11, 2026 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the continued closure of the gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram al-Sharif by Israeli occupation authorities to worshippers, preventing them from performing religious rites there, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. The Ministry considered this a flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, the existing legal and historical status quo, and the right of unrestricted access to places of worship.

The Ministry's official spokesperson, Ambassador Fouad Majali, affirmed the Kingdom's absolute rejection and condemnation of this illegal and unjustified measure, and of the Israeli authorities' continued provocative actions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram al-Sharif and against worshippers. He stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Al-Majali called on Israel, as the occupying power, to immediately cease closing the gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to stop obstructing worshippers' access to the mosque. He urged the international community to take a firm international stance that compels Israel to halt its ongoing violations and illegal practices against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and its desecration of the sanctity of holy places.

He reiterated that the Al-Aqsa Mosque, with its entire area of 144 dunams, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, and that the Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places, is the sole legal authority with exclusive jurisdiction over the management of the affairs of the Noble Sanctuary and the regulation of entry to it.
