Presidents Sisi, Macron stress need for full implementation of Gaza ceasefire agreement

CAIRO, March 8, 2026 (WAFA) – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, stressed the need for the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and ensuring the unimpeded and sufficient delivery of humanitarian aid.

This came during a phone call Sisi received on Sunday from his French counterpart, during which the two leaders discussed the latest regional developments, particularly the situation in Palestine.

The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed al-Shennawi, said that the call addressed the importance of initiating the early recovery and reconstruction process in the Gaza Strip, while emphasizing the rejection of any attempts to displace the Palestinian people from their land.

President Sisi also expressed deep concern regarding the military escalation in the region and the ongoing conflict in Iran, and the serious repercussions this has, including rising energy prices and disruptions to supply chains and air and sea transport, both for Egypt and at the regional and international levels.

Sisi condemned Iran's targeting of Arab countries, at a time when Gulf states and other regional parties were keen to de-escalate tensions and pursue a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear issue, warning of the dangers of the conflict widening and potentially plunging the entire region into chaos.
