Vice President holds expanded security meeting to discuss political and security developments

 

RAMALLAH, February 23, 2026 (WAFA) – Vice President and Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein al-Sheikh, held today, Monday, an expanded security meeting with the heads of the security apparatuses, attended by Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa and the Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Security Forces Brigadier General Ismail Jabr.

During the meeting, participants conducted a comprehensive review of political, security, and social developments in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, in light of regional and international developments, particularly those related to the implementation of the U.S. President’s peace plan and the application of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, and their potential impact on the Palestinian reality across all dimensions.

The attendees also discussed the implications of the current phase and ways to enhance national readiness, consolidate the rule of law, uphold citizens’ dignity, and promote civil peace.

The Vice President briefed attendees on the key political and economic challenges, as well as on efforts to bolster the Palestinian position diplomatically and politically, underscoring the importance of coordinated roles among the political leadership, security, and judicial institutions to safeguard the national project and reinforce the resilience of the Palestinian people.

The meeting also addressed mechanisms for opening a coordination office between the Palestinian National Authority and the High Representative of the Peace Council, to unify administrative and political references, enhance integrated performance, and strengthen political and legal linkage between the West Bank and Gaza Strip, in a manner that serves the higher national interest.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Al-Sheikh emphasized the necessity of maintaining the highest levels of readiness and discipline, enhancing citizens’ trust in official institutions, and reaffirmed that security and stability constitute a fundamental pillar in safeguarding the rights of the Palestinian people and their national constants.
