President Abbas expresses gratitude to Saudi Arabia and Turkey over position on Palestinian cause

Ramallah, February 4, 2026 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the joint Saudi-Turkish statement issued at the conclusion of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The statement affirmed the two countries’ positions on the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the necessity of consolidating the ceasefire, ending the occupation of Gaza, enabling the Palestinian National Authority to resume its responsibilities in the Gaza Strip, ending the occupation completely, and guaranteeing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.

The President also welcomed the reaffirmation by Saudi Arabia and Turkey of the vital role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in providing essential services to the Palestinian people.

He commended the honorable and principled stances of both Saudi Arabia and Turkey in supporting international law, international legitimacy, and the Palestinian people’s rights to freedom and independence.
