BRUSSELS, January 21, 2026 (WAFA) — The European Union said the Israeli occupation authorities’ raid on the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in occupied Jerusalem constitutes a serious attack on the UN agency and a violation of Israel’s obligations under the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the EU said it remains a strong supporter of the United Nations, of which UNRWA is a part, and reaffirmed its full commitment to a multilateral system based on international law and the principles of the UN Charter.

It added that UN agencies are responsible for implementing these principles and play a central role in safeguarding global security and protecting and upholding fundamental human rights.

The European Union also expressed its commitment to continuing political and financial support for UNRWA, stressing the agency’s vital role in providing humanitarian aid, education, and health services in the occupied Palestinian territory.
