AMMAN, January 13, 2025 (WAFA) - Jordan on Tuesday condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem by Israel’s so-called National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, under the protection of Israeli occupation police, as reported by Jordan’s news agency, Petra.
Spokesperson of Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Fouad Majali, described the storming as “a blatant violation of the legal and historical status quo at the Haram al-Sharif, a desecration of its sanctity, and a dangerous escalation and unacceptable provocation.”
Majali stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites.
He said the Kingdom rejects and condemns the continued incursions by the extremist minister, as well as the facilitation of these repeated violations by the Israeli occupation police.
He said the actions are provocative and inflammatory and aim to impose a new reality at Al-Aqsa Mosque by attempting to divide it temporally and spatially.
Majali warned of the grave consequences of these ongoing provocative violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem and called on Israel to immediately halt all violations.
He said Israel's violations reflect the extremist Israeli government's policy of escalating dangerous and unilateral measures in the occupied West Bank and of violating the sanctity of holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.
He reiterated that the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in its entirety spanning 144 dunams, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, and that the Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, of the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places, is the sole legal authority responsible for administering the mosque's affairs and regulating access to it.
Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir on Tuesday stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. The Jerusalem Governorate said that Ben-Gvir carried out the incursion during the afternoon period of colonists’ incursions. It added that 194 colonists also stormed the mosque through the Mughrabi Gate under heavy protection from Israeli occupation forces, where they performed racist Talmudic rituals in its courtyards.
