UN Secretary-General condemns Israeli Knesset measures targeting UNRWA

RAMALLAH, January 1, 2025 (WAFA) – United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stated that the decisions taken by the Israeli Knesset regarding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) are aimed at obstructing the agency's operations.

This came in a statement issued by the UN Spokesperson's Office last night.

The statement indicated that the Secretary-General condemnd the amendments introduced by the Israeli Knesset to the law to halt UNRWA's operations, passed on December 29, 2015.

It explained that these amendments "are designed to further obstruct UNRWA's operations and its ability to carry out its mandated tasks."

He emphasized that the aforementioned amendments and decisions are inconsistent with UNRWA's status and the framework of international law, and must be rescinded immediately, stressing that UNRWA is an integral part of the United Nations.
