RAMALLAH, December 21, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas received a delegation of Israeli peace activists at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah on Sunday.
The President welcomed the peace activists, praising their tireless efforts to achieve peace based on the two-state solution, which would bring security, peace, and stability to both the Palestinian and Israeli peoples, as well as to the peoples of the region.
He stressed that the denial by extremist forces in Israel of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and independence in their state alongside the State of Israel, in accordance with international law, will not bring security and peace to anyone, as has been the case for decades.
The President said, "We are keen to communicate with all forces that support peace, and we are ready to work with all sectors of Israeli society to achieve the peace of the brave, which we came close to achieving in the Oslo Accords with the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, and which we can achieve again."
President Abbas added that achieving peace through dialogue remains our strategic choice, as we believe in political, diplomatic, and legal action. We condemn violence and terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Therefore, we condemn the killing and kidnapping of civilians by Hamas on October 7th, as well as the killing, destruction, and starvation inflicted on our people in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Jerusalem by the occupation forces and settlers.
The President continued, saying that we are committed to implementing the reform agenda, which includes holding elections after the cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip, drafting a provisional constitution that affirms a pluralistic, civil Palestinian state, and enacting a new political parties law. We also reiterate our rejection of antisemitism, as it contradicts our values and principles.
"We emphasize the importance of implementing the second phase of President Trump's plan, which was signed by Hamas and the mediators," the President added.
"This phase calls for Hamas to relinquish its rule over the Gaza Strip, surrender its weapons, and for Israel to withdraw completely from the Gaza Strip, paving the way for reconstruction."
The President pointed out that the Israeli occupation authorities, by insisting on settlement, annexation, apartheid, the policy of killing and destruction, denial of Palestinian rights, withholding funds and other unilateral measures, have isolated Israel in the international community.
"What we want and seek is to live in peace, stability and good neighborliness with the Israeli people, stressing that the key to regional security and peace is only through reaching a Palestinian-Israeli peace agreement based on the resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative, so that all peoples and countries of the region may enjoy security, peace and prosperity," President Abbas concluded.
