ACCRA, December 14, 2025 (WAFA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, affirmed on Sunday the importance of developing Palestinian-Ghanaian relations at various levels.

During a press conference held in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, as part of the Foreign Minister’s official visit to the Republic of Ghana, Minister Shahin conveyed the greetings of the President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, the government, and the Palestinian people.

She expressed her gratitude to the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, for his supportive stance on the Palestinian issue, especially the Palestinian people's right to self-determination.

She also thanked the Ghanaian Foreign Minister, Samuel Ablakwa, for his clear position on the war on the Gaza Strip, which she described as a war of genocide.

She also commended the Ghanaian people's support for the rights of the Palestinian people.

The minister stressed that her visit to Ghana was an anticipated one, aimed primarily at developing bilateral relations between the two countries at all levels, holding a series of official meetings, and discussing the possibility of signing future agreements that serve the interests of the two friendly peoples.

Shahin provided a briefing on the grave humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip and the continuation of the occupation’s violations and unilateral measures in the West Bank, in addition to escalating attacks by colonists and the obstruction of citizens’ access to perform their religious rituals in the city of Jerusalem.

She emphasized that the utmost priority is sustaining the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, ensuring the entry of sufficient quantities of humanitarian aid, mobilizing international support for the Gaza recovery and reconstruction conference, and rejecting all attempts to displace the Palestinian people.

On the sidelines of the conference, Minister Shahin honored the President of Ghana Solidarity Campaign for the Palestinian People, Kwesi Pratt Jr, by awarding him the "Medal of Appreciation" in the name of President Mahmoud Abbas, in recognition of his distinguished role and continuous support for the Palestinian people and their just cause for freedom and independence.

Minister Shahin also planted the Ghanaian-Palestinian Friendship Tree at the headquarters of the State of Palestine's Embassy in the capital, Accra, affirming the depth of the friendly relations and solidarity between the two countries.

As part of her official visit to the Republic of Ghana, Minister Shahin also laid a wreath at the mausoleum of the Republic's founder, its first President, Kwame Nkrumah, in appreciation of his historical role in supporting liberation issues around the world, especially the Palestinian cause.

This gesture reaffirms the depth of the friendly and fraternal relations between the State of Palestine and the Republic of Ghana, and the shared values based on championing freedom and justice.
