Presidency rejects US envoy remarks supporting Israeli settlements

RAMALLAH, December 13, 2025 (WAFA) – Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, said on Saturday that all Israeli settlement activity is illegal and constitutes a violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, in response to remarks by the US ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee.

Abu Rudeineh was responding to Huckabee’s statement claiming that there was no need for any reaction to Israel allowing the establishment of 19 settlements, arguing that this does not amount to annexation or a declaration of sovereignty.

He stressed that the US ambassador’s pro-settlement remarks are rejected and condemned, noting that they contradict the international consensus embodied in UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which clearly considers all settlement activity illegal. He added that no party is authorized to grant legitimacy to the occupation or its policies.

Abu Rudeineh called on the US administration to adhere to international law and international legitimacy resolutions if it is genuinely concerned with halting violence and escalation and achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.

He emphasized that recognition of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people is the only path to peace and security for all.
